Looking Back....

I have the awesome opportunity to be mentored by 3 amazing photographers in just a few weeks.  In preparation for this event, they have asked me to prepare my portfolio for review.  As I have been "thumbing" through some of my favorite images of the past few years, I couldn't help but re-edit this beautiful photo of stunning Yukia.  I can't believe just how much I have learned since I shot her wedding.  Tell me what you think of the difference between these two photos...I am just so excited to be learning, every step of the way.  I can't wait to see what this mentorship has to teach me!

Why does Custom Photography Cost More?

I found this article a few months back and wanted to stand up and cheer!  For all of us custom photographers out there, we are asked the question quite frequently "why do your 8x10's cost anywhere from $15-$40 (this a price range from different photographers I've seen here in Utah), when I can get one at Costco or Walmart for less than a few dollars?"

It is hard to explain the time and effort (the blood sweat and tears, as I would call it) that goes into our custom product.  So for all of you who would like to know why my prices (and many other Utah photographer's prices) are what they are, please click on the link and it will completely explain why!

  

With this note in mind, I appreciate each of my clients who see the value in custom photography.  They know that they are getting much more than a quick shoot down at the mall.  They are getting a unique experience that is completely "hand-made" for them.

Photo Exchange

We had a little photographer's exchange yesterday.  The lighting was dreamy, and the girls were just too much fun!  We all learned just how intimidating it can be to be in front of the camera.  I think we all decided we prefer to be behind the camera!  I am in love with the blue metal structure and red barn that we (aka Raquel) found for us to shoot at.  In fact, I love it so much that ALL my edits are in color thus far!  Enjoy these ladies! 

Summer Mentoring for Me!

This summer, I will be spending a full day with 3 AMAZING photographers, learning more about lighting, posing, working with clients, etc.  PLUS, I get to learn about their photo processing techniques and workflow!  I can't even tell you how excited I am!  Anna Jones is heading this up (she just moved to Arkasas!), check out her blog...you'll drool over her yummy, colorful images!  www.blog.indieannajones.com.  So, hopefully I'll learn a think or two and have even more to offer my fantastic clients!  Wahoo!

A Classic Image...

I am having WAY too much fun processing the newborn sessions that I did about a week ago.  Here's another favorite!  This black and white action is called Hot Fudge... I love the contrast that it gives to the photo, bringing out this baby's delicate features.  More to come...
